There are no shortcuts in synthwave

philosophy & mindset Jul 18, 2023

In this day and age, everyone is looking for the shortcut, the hack to get an incredible result without any effort.

Life doesn’t work that way. Anything worthwhile in life will require serious effort, intention and work to be accomplished.

If you want to become a black belt synthwave producer, it will require time, education, training, tons of practice and making a lot of music.

There will be a lot of frustration and failure involved.

Although there are tools and processes you can use to speed up your learning and to turbo charge your skills, you can’t cut to the front of the line and skip the hard work that is required

In a martial arts dojo, you start as a white belt, a beginner, and if you’re dedicated and work your butt off, you could aspire to become a black belt in maybe 3-5 years.

Of course that would involve real blood, sweat and tears.

The value of the black belt in martial arts, or getting to the NBA or becoming and advanced synthwave producer is in that a lot of people dream about it but so few are willing to actually do it and have the capabilities to pull it off.

In martial arts and basketball, you need physical abilities to make progress, which may not be accessible to everyone.

But when it comes to synthwave music production, I’m fully convinced that anyone can become a synthwave black belt with the right attitude and work ethic.

Just like in a dojo, there’s no shortcut from white belt to black belt, you have to earn it.

So stop looking for shortcuts and instead focus on developing your skills and building your body of work.
